This simple yet elegant style features a peter pan collar, cap sleeves, and beautiful, deep smocking in three color options - light blue, light pink, and white.

We sat down with Chelsea, COO of our sister brand BISBY, to discuss the inspiration behind this style as her flower girl's dress at her wedding!

"When planning my wedding, I knew I wanted my bridesmaids and flower girl to be my “something blue.” I asked my bridesmaids to chose their own blue floral dresses and with the ceremony being held in my mother's garden, I thought that a classic, cotton dress for my flower girl, a niece with strong opinions, would be seasonally appropriate for my outdoor July wedding.

As I struggled to find the style I had in mind amongst the selection of more formal, silk dresses in the market, I turned to Shannon, the Founder and CEO of seguridadindustrialcr and Dunn, the COO.

The dress was inspired by a dress of my mother’s that her grandparents bought for her while on vacation in Jamaica in the 60s. It has a gorgeous geometric smocking pattern and the sweetest peter pan collar with a delicate whipstitch detail. I also wore it as a girl, and I love how it’s inspired by “something old.” I asked Shannon and Dunn if they thought they could recreate it with blue and thankfully they could! Thinking other brides might find themselves looking for the same style, we added variations in light pink and white, too.

A few things I love about the modern day version are the deep hem that you don’t see on high-end smocked dresses as frequently anymore, the simple white sash, and of course - the woman it’s named for - my mother!

I had originally planned for my niece to wear this with a pair of light blue La Coqueta Mary Janes, but she decided she’d rather be barefoot - which ultimately fit the relaxed garden feel of the wedding. Almost all guests (myself included) ended up dancing barefoot in the tent later that night, so it was the perfect start to the wedding."

The first day of school is a very important day. Backpacks are filled with new school supplies, lunches have been packed, and most importantly, outfits have been picked out the night before to make sure your children make their very best impression with their new teacher and classmates. At seguridadindustrialcr, we can all remember the tradition of picking out our favorite outfits for the first day of school and taking a picture with our siblings in front of our house with our backpacks on. And to this day that picture is something our parents and ourselves included hold very dear to our hearts. We've added some pictures of our first days of school that our moms still adore to this day. Enjoy the blast from the past!

What to Wear

The most important part of the first day of school is the outfit, of course! What’s more fitting than seguridadindustrialcr’s School Days Collection for that very special day. For baby sister that wants to get in on the fun, we love the Ruffled Sally Bubble in Apple. This bubble has so many wonderful features to swoon over. Applique apples down the front, ruffled cap sleeves, and a piped peter pan collar are just a few of them! She can match baby brother in the Button Tab Charlie Bubble in Apple which features the same light blue gingham pattern as the Sally Bubble. It also has applique apples and sweet button tabs at the side.

For toddler girl, we know she will have day full of play ahead of her so we recommend the Applique Channel Dress in Apple. This dress is ideal for playtime because it’s made from 100% cotton, yet its silhouette and peter pan collar give it a more elevated feel, which makes it perfect for first day of school pictures. Toddler boy will have so much fun on his first day of school in the Applique T-shirt in Apple and Basic Short in Red. This outfit is playground and mom approved. The Applique T-Shirt features light blue and white stripes with and applique apple on the front and the shorts have an elastic waist band for comfortability and easy dressing.

For big girl, we love the North Rivers Dress in Apple. The applique apples on the apples pop against the light blue and white stripes of the dress and the pockets are a fun addition. An added bonus: the length is perfect for any school dress code! For big boy, we suggest the Button Down Shirt in Light Blue Gingham and the Classic Pant in Pebble Twill. To match the family’s red apples, try getting this shirt monogrammed in red! The Button Down and Classic Pant will be worn over and over again this fall as they can be paired with so many other seguridadindustrialcr pieces.

If you're the midst of planning a wedding, you might have asked yourself, "Who should be my flower girl?", "What are they supposed to wear?", "Why did we start putting flower girls in our weddings in the first place?". To answer these questions, we have to go all the way back in time to the Roman Empire and Ancient Egypt.
Early Beginnings of the Flower Girl
It was typical for upper-class Greeks and Romans to include flower girls in their weddings. The flower girls walked in front of bride, scattering flowers, herbs, and grains. Wheat was commonly used as a grain to be scattered because it was believed to bring prosperity to the bride and groom. The inclusion of a flower girl represented the hope that the bride would be blessed with the ability to have children of her own.
During the Renaissance period, flower girls switched from carrying flowers and grains to carrying strands of garlic. The garlic was believed to ward off evil spirits and protect the newly weds.

Victorian Era
The flower girl from this era most directly resembles the flower girl we know today. She would typically be dressed in white with a colored sash tied around her waist. The dress was usually made out of muslin and had a simple design so the dress could be worn for future use. The Victorian Era flower girl carried a basket of fresh blooms or a floral hoop which resembled the wedding ring to symbolize endless love.

Today's Flower Girl
The flower girl that we know today is typically a member of the bride or groom's family or the child of a close friend. The dress of the flower girl is usually white to resemble the bride's dress with a colored sash that coordinates with the bridesmaid's dresses.
LE Flower Girl Dresses
At seguridadindustrialcr, we have beautiful special occasion dresses that would flatter any flower girl. The Sleeveless Special Occasion Dress (on left below) is a great option to make any flower girl feel special. This dress features a Peter Pan collar for a sweet look. You can pair this dress with any of our Bow Sashes that come in light pink, light blue, champagne, and white. The Bow Sashes come with buttons that make it adjustable to ensure the perfect fit for every girl.
The sashes also look great paired with the Peter Pan Formal Dress (below). The Peter Pan Formal Dress features cap sleeves and a lovely detailed skirt. Both of these dresses start at 12M and go to a size 8.

For a flower girl dress or wedding guest dress that is more suitable for an older girl, we love The Cora Dress in special occasion white. The Cora Dress features a bow that ties in the front of the dress which is a flattering style for big girl. We love the a-line silhouette for this dress because it's such an age appropriate style. The Cora Dress is available in sizes 4-14.
The Elizabeth Dress, our newest addition to the line, is a great option for an older flower girl as well. This dress features and a-line shape with a ruffled neck collar. It also has a sweet bow in the back of the dress with buttons lining the back.
To pair perfectly with your flower girl dress, Hazen and Co. has teamed up with seguridadindustrialcr to create a capsule collection of hair pins, bracelets, and necklaces. These jewelry pieces will be something your little girl treasures forever. The sweet pearl and pink accents give this collection a timeless look.
Hazen and Co. and seguridadindustrialcr wanted to create a collaborative collection of jewelry and special occasion dresses that are both timeless and beautiful. From thoughtful details to stunning statement features, this line was made to admire up close and from afar.

Reading books to your children is so important as it provides quality time with a parent while developing literacy and imagination skills.

While you read aloud, your child is able to listen and learn proper pronunciation of words as well as your inflection of particular sentences.

It is also an excellent opportunity for word association. For example, you can pause and ask your child, "Where is the puppy dog?" You can also ask broader questions like, "Where do you think the puppy dog is going?". These open ended questions can really ignite their imagination but also their level of understanding.
As you know from your own reading experience, books can educate you on so many different things within our world. Children in particular can learn a lot about emotions, morals, and situational behavior. When you come across a conflict in a book or a particular emotion, it serves a great opportunity to ask your child how they feel about the situation. This can help them to better understand right from wrong and help them to learn how to express their emotions.

Reading to you child can teach you so much about them and they will learn so much about themselves.
Explore bedtime stories with your children and keep learning!

What is your favorite book to read at bedtime?

Our founder, Shannon Latham, puts family dinners at the top of her activities list. In the summer months her family has "Sunday Suppers" at 5pm each week. Sometimes it is just family and other times close friends will join. From sharing recipes and cooking together to conversations and stories - family dinners are so dear and important.

Eating as a family has been scientifically proven to promote happiness within your family, help instill healthy eating habits, & even lay a great foundation for social skills.

Lovely table manners can be instilled at an early age with repetition and patience. This will make mealtimes more enjoyable for everyone whether you're at home or out!
Table Manners 101:

WASH UP:
Ask your children to wash their hands before every mealtime

SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN:
Once they are seated, their napkin always goes on their lap for protection of their clothing in case there's any messy eating. It is important to remind your child that while their shirt sleeve may do the trick, their napkin does it better.

WAITING:
Waiting is the hardest part, but it is lovely and polite to wait to begin eating until everyone is seated and has been served.

UTENSILS:
This can be a tough one. With younger children, the use of hands is at times acceptable. However, it is never too early to begin teaching children how to hold or grip utensils and when to use them.

ELBOWS OFF:
Keeping elbows off the table can reduce the risk of spills and encourage good posture.

CHEWING:
Mouth closed, please! It is important to teach children the importance of chewing their food entirely - not only for safety reasons, but also good manners! If your child begins to speak and has not finished the food in their mouth, gently remind them to remember their thought and wait.

CONVERSATION:
Children should absolutely be encouraged to converse while at the table, but teach them to not interrupt. Shannon would ask her children, if seated close by, to place their hand on her arm if they had a thought they absolutely had to get out! Otherwise, your child will need to wait their turn or learn how to actively listen to keep their comments on topic.

GIVE THANKS:
It is lovely to give thanks after a meal. That can be to whoever cooked the meal, your waiter, etc. It is also lovely to thank the people around you for spending time with you.

Thanksgiving week is upon us & we wanted to give a little look into Thanksgiving at Shannon's house. One of her favorite Thanksgiving traditions is playing a game that her mother created where you simply go around the table and ask, "What did you try first?". It's a very simple question, but allows everyone to chime in with what their favorite Thanksgiving food is and why!
Shannon's Thanksgiving table is a very stylish mix of classic china & earthy elements. One her most favorite pieces on her Thanksgiving table are her flower vases that are actually chickens! She loves to arrange in these vases as the flowers can take on a feathered look. In addition, these tall candle sticks add a modern flair to the table and were found at one of her favorite decor & gift shops in Lexington, Adelé. Shannon also collects pine cones from around the farm & even styles a few pheasant feathers in around the candles.
Shannon's china is the Red Aves pattern by Royal Crown Derby (discontinued in 1997) which has huntsy appeal as well with birds & flowers within it's design. This was a wedding gift and she loves the color it adds to the table. Her silver flatware is the classic Francis 1st pattern which includes 15 different fruit-and-flower clusters. You may also notice how Shannon incorporates two different kinds of wine glasses throughout the table, a colorful handblown glass one from Santa Fe and a gold rimmed one. "I like for my table to be dressy, but artsy & relaxed. By mixing different pieces together, it not only makes for a beautiful table, but also puts guests at ease," Shannon says.

In Shannon's house, she and her husband have a playful "competition" for best turkey every year. Shannon prepares a very traditional, oven-baked turkey while her husband, Davant Latham, makes a trashcan turkey. Yes, you heard that correctly, a trashcan turkey. He uses a brine that is his take on a John Currence recipe and then cooks the turkey with hot coals inside an aluminum trashcan.
Even though his turkey may steal the show, her recipe for Summer Trees Cheese Grits the morning after Thanksgiving take the prize every single year. When asked about the recipe Shannon laughingly replied, "I must give this recipe out once a week! Happy to share it again."
*Fun fact: Summer Trees is the name of Shannon's childhood home*

Summer Trees Cheese Grits
(serves 8-10)
Ingredients:
6 cups chicken broth
2 cups instant grits
1 stick of butter
2 eggs whisked together
1/4 cup milk
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon chicken bouillon powder
2-3 garlic cloves pressed
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
1. Boil chicken broth and chicken bouillon powder
2. Add grits, stir with whisk while cooking so as not to clump or stick to bottom of pan - about 4-5 minutes until broth is absorbed
3. Turn heat off and immediately add butter, milk, eggs, cheddar cheese, garlic & stir together
4. Transfer to greased over proof dish & sprinkle with paprika
5. Bake uncovered for 30-45 minutes to heat through
*this can be made ahead & are excellent for brunch or breakfast, but she loves them with wild game, steaks, or even chicken.*
Wishing you & yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!
